Birthday Letter to a 3-Year Old

Dear Lumi,
How you have grown! It feels like yesterday when you were an idea, an energy so powerful that we spent most of our time planning and visualising what you would be like. When you finally became reality, it was a moment of immense pride and joy. 14th of September 2013 was the big day – Lumi doors opened and a few brave yogis showed up. We could barely contain our excitement.
And then the sleepless nights started. You needed a lot of care – cleaning, organising and simply making sure that you survived each day. Some newborns are easy and others are not. Well, you were delightful, inspirational and powerful – but not easy! Sometimes you had leaks. Sometimes things broke and learning to walk was filled with falls and bruises. We worried about you often.
Day by day, week by week, you grew in size and independence. We learned how to better support you. Most importantly, you started to have friends of your own – a group of people whose energy and encouraging words for a wobbly toddler made all the difference. Yogis who showed up for classes. A team of teachers and staff who brought their skills and passion to Lumi. A community was born. And that changed everything.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. You have been nurtured by a whole village of wonderful people. Every OM, every conversation, every praise, every challenge – they have all shaped you to become who you are today. Classes where sweat and shifts happen. Welcoming space for growth and transformation. Moments of joy, moments of truth and moments of laugh-out-loud craziness. Heart of an amazing community with a genuine intention to make the world a better place, one downdog at a time. Perfectly imperfect yoga studio and community.
We are full of gratitude for everyone who has supported you along the way. We are proud of who you’ve become and excited about your future. And like all parents, a tiny bit emotional to see you grow into independence with your own experiences and learnings. You’re still so young and already so amazing.
