YIN IS IN!

Selda and Lisa met two years ago on the London yoga scene and have since become firm friends and colleagues. Fortunately, they both ended up on the same Yin Yoga teacher training and well, as the saying goes, the rest is history. They share a love of yoga, human connection, sunshine and fashion. Two real yin yoga lovers get down to why they love the practice and how it’s benefited them both on and off the mat.

Why practice Yin?

S: Yin liberates me from the inside. It connects me to the very ‘realness’ of reality and at the same time, gives me that falling asleep feeling whilst being awake. I can practice being in the here and now, which helps to not take life too seriously.

L: Yin allows me to truly ‘be’ as I am today, in this body of mine (in ease or discomfort). Yin is a magical practice that gives me a heavenly feeling like I am floating, yet at the same time settling and softening on the ground with the help of gravity to loosen up the body and to quiet an overactive mind.

What’s your favourite yin pose?

S: Fave pose is hard, as I love them all. I think reclined butterfly, with a bolster, is a winner. Anything that opens the heart.

L: Tough one – it’s a toss up between dragonfly – sinking deep into the hips and inner groin or supported bridge – opening and exposing the heart.

How has the practice benefited you?

S: I’ve got to truly know my body.  Anatomically, physiologically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Understanding my body/mind has created more balance in my life, which I believe is the key to happiness.

L: I have learnt to slow down and simplify my life – sometimes less is so much more. Physically I have seen how this still, more passive practice complements a dynamic, yang practice by lengthening and stretching out tighter muscle groups but it has also created much more patience within my yoga practice and my body – the perfect handstand will happen one day. 🙂

What’s your favourite Savasana song at end of class?

S: The Piano Guys – Beethoven’s 5 Secrets. Or silence can be magical.

L: Enter One by Sol Seppy – Lumi regulars will have heard this a few times. It’s a real beauty!

Join Selda and Lisa for an afternoon of Yin Yoga at Lumi’s YIN YOGA WORKSHOP on May 16th from 2 – 4pm. Your body and mind will thank you for it. Book now. (http://ow.ly/Mfr5o)
